By Lisa Forsyth, PharmD, FCCM; SMSHP President-Elect; Aug. 2026
The Southeastern Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists continues the momentum of 2026. In May, we celebrated 80 years of our organization’s legacy! During the summer months, we take a little break from our traditional programs and resume the schedule in September.
Branding and Engagement Continues
SMSHP continues to focus on branding and engagement for professional visibility. In 2026 we updated our logo, invested in marketing materials, working on a website refresh, and have a strong social media presence. LinkedIn is our most popular social media platform and we continue to gain new members to our organization. We have featured our Board of Directors (Chairs and Committee members) on social media over the last few months and will continue to showcase how members can become involved. Finally, SMSHP is planning another summer mixer event in August after the strong turnout last year.
Presidential Update
Lama Hsaiky represented SMSHP at the ASHP Pharmacy Futures 2026 conference. Not only did she have the honor to introduce this year’s Whitney Award winner, but she also actively participated in the 2026 ASHP House of Delegates. Lama continues to be an advocate for our profession and help with decisions that shape the future of healthcare.
Continuing Education Programs
Our continuing education events maintain strong attendance, with topics tailored to our membership needs. We completed a gap analysis seeking educational topic ideas and feedback on continuing our monthly weeknight programming versus offering quarterly weekend events. The membership enjoys our monthly programming and offered many topics for our committee to explore for 2027.
SMSHP was proud to host the Annual Pharmacy Technician Education Seminar in June. A day dedicated to advancing the knowledge, skills, and impact of technicians across the region.
